Banning Fire Burns 2,000 Acres, Now 95% Contained; Highway 243 Reopens

A wildfire near Banning has burned more than 2,000 acres, but fire officials now report it is approximately 95% contained. The blaze prompted closures and evacuation warnings throughout the weekend, though Highway 243 has since reopened to traffic.

Fire crews remain on the scene, actively working to suppress hot spots and strengthen containment lines. Evacuation warnings continue for areas near the fire’s perimeter, as safety concerns remain due to shifting conditions.

More than 480 personnel, including multiple aircraft and engines, have been assigned to the fire. Three firefighters were injured during the response effort. Their conditions have not been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
