Empty the Shelters: Free Pet Adoptions in Riverside County

Animal shelters across Riverside County are overflowing, and officials are urging residents to help give dogs and cats a second chance.

To address the crisis, Riverside County Animal Services has partnered with the Bissell Pet Foundation for its Empty the Shelters campaign, running July 5 through 19. During this period, all adoption fees are waived.

“We are over 230% capacity for dogs and over 100% capacity for cats,” said Marlo Klingman, a manager with Riverside County Animal Services. “We need to get animals out of the shelter. We want to find wonderful homes for these pets.”

Even though adoptions are free during the campaign, shelters still benefit from grant funding through the Bissell Pet Foundation, allowing them to continue care for other animals in need.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Coachella Valley Animal Campus to meet the pets in person. “We guarantee you’ll fall in love,” Klingman said.
