Palm Desert to Review New Radar-Based Parking Enforcement Pilot

Palm Desert is taking steps to improve public safety through smarter parking enforcement. On Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, the city’s Public Safety Committee will meet at City Hall to review and take public comment on a proposed “safety stick” pilot program.

The initiative uses radar-based technology to detect parking violations in high-risk zones, including crosswalks, fire lanes, school zones, and loading areas. According to the committee agenda, the pilot will rely on a system called CenturyLink to provide remote enforcement, real-time monitoring, and automated citation issuance.

If approved by the committee, the proposal will move forward to the Palm Desert City Council for final consideration.
