Cathedral City Invests $110,000 in Palm Springs Film Festival Partnership
Cathedral City may deepen its partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival through a $110,000 sponsorship agreement for the 2026 event, as city council prepares to vote on the proposal Wednesday.
The investment includes $90,000 in direct financial sponsorship plus $20,000 in in-kind services.
Festival Impact
The Palm Springs International Film Festival attracts more than 136,000 attendees annually, presenting Oscar-contending films and culminating in the star-studded Film Awards ceremony.
For Cathedral City, the partnership centers on the Mary Pickford Theatre downtown, which serves as a primary screening venue during the multi-day festival. Communications & Events Manager Ryan Hunt's staff report calls the sponsorship "one of the best returns on investment the City receives for exposure and brand recognition."
Community Programming
Cathedral City will serve as the presenting sponsor of Family Day on January 11, 2026, hosted at the Community Amphitheater. The free event aims to make the festival accessible to local families.
The partnership also continues the Student Screening Day at Cathedral City High School, reaching approximately 400 students with expanded programming planned.
Economic Strategy
The $110,000 investment represents a $10,000 discount from standard Platinum pricing due to the partnership's longevity. City officials view the festival as a driver of downtown economic activity, with the Mary Pickford Theatre experiencing its busiest period during the festival.
Funding comes from the adopted Fiscal Year 25-26 Communications and Events budget. The city council meets on Wednesday, July 8th, to consider the agreement.
