Over a Million Ram Trucks Under Federal Review for Rollaway Risk

Federal regulators are investigating whether previous recalls affecting more than a million Ram pickup trucks were sufficient in addressing a critical safety defect that may cause vehicles to roll away unexpectedly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the issue stems from a flaw in the truck’s transmission system. In some cases, the vehicle may shift out of park even if the brake pedal isn’t pressed or the key isn’t in the ignition.

According to NHTSA, they’ve received at least 20 complaints from vehicle owners reporting that recall repairs failed to correct the problem. Among those reports, some involved injuries, while several others reportedly resulted in crashes or fires.

The agency’s current probe aims to determine whether the initial remedy was adequate and if additional recalls may be necessary.

The automaker behind Ram trucks has stated it is cooperating fully with NHTSA as the investigation continues.
