An NBC Palm Springs Weather Heads-Up for Wednesday, July 9, 2025!

Because of an expanding and strengthening upper-level ridge of high pressure over the Southwest, a large area of Southern California will be under an Extreme Heat Warning through Thursday.

To be more specific, the Coachella Valley will see totally clear skies both today and tomorrow along with well-above-normal high temperatures approaching 120° both afternoons.

Next, because of a slowly moving frontal boundary to our North, the aforementioned upper-high will be pushed aside on Friday. This atmospheric action will play a role in pulling-down those afternoon highs this weekend. Regardless... we will still be hot.

Also -- because of hot, stagnant air and high pressure keeping ozone pollutants close to the ground -- an Air Quality Alert has been posted through Thursday.

In fact, you can expect sunny afternoons on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with dry air and midday temps in the one-tweens.
