Desert Hot Springs Opens First Low-Cost Vet Clinic Since 2018

Animal lovers in Desert Hot Springs have something to celebrate—the city now has its first veterinary clinic since 2018. The Desert Community Animal Center officially opened its doors this morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, offering affordable care and wellness services for pets.

NBC’s Mary Strong was on site as the community marked the long-awaited opening. The new clinic is operated by Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies and offers services including vaccinations, spay/neuter appointments, and general pet wellness visits.

"This is a big deal," Strong reported. "There are only a few low-cost veterinary clinics in the entire Coachella Valley, and this one is already seeing a surge in appointment requests."

Executive Director Dan, who also oversees the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and Wildlife Center, explained the location choice: “Desert Hot Springs hasn’t had a medical animal center since 2018. Pet owners had to drive to Banning or Palm Springs for care. It made sense to open here.”

Longtime Desert Hot Springs resident Arthur Jones shared his experience, noting he delayed getting a new pet due to lack of access. “Now I have a new dog and I already made an appointment to bring him in for his shots. This place is needed 110%.”

The clinic is open to anyone in the Coachella Valley. Appointments can be made online at DesertVet.org.

Mayor Scott Mattis praised the clinic’s mission, saying, “Every family deserves access to compassionate and affordable pet care.”
