Palm Desert Proposes New Limits on Leaf Blower Noise
The City of Palm Desert is considering new restrictions aimed at reducing early morning noise from landscaping crews and maintenance workers. The city council is expected to adopt a new ordinance that would limit the hours power equipment—such as leaf blowers—can be used.
Under the proposed rule, power tools that exceed 70 decibels could only be used between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on regular weekdays. On government holidays, the use of any noisy equipment over that decibel limit would be entirely prohibited.
The goal of the ordinance is to curb early morning disturbances in residential neighborhoods while still allowing landscaping businesses to operate efficiently.
There are some exceptions in the plan. Private homeowners and golf courses would be granted different operational hours under the new rules, reflecting their unique needs and impact on the community.
The ordinance will be reviewed at an upcoming city council meeting, where public feedback is also expected.
