Palm Springs Animal Camp Returns, Offering Kids Hands-On Experience with Shelter Pets and Farm Animals

The third annual Palm Springs Animal Camp is officially underway, providing local kids with a unique, hands-on experience working with shelter pets and rescued farm animals.

Designed for young animal lovers, the camp teaches essential skills like how to properly care for animals, how to read pet body language, and what it takes to become a veterinarian.

One of the camp’s standout moments is a field trip to a local rescue ranch, where kids get to meet farm animals such as pigs and chickens. For many campers, it’s their first time interacting with animals beyond household pets.

“Well, about the field trip, it’s really just getting to see all these other animals I don’t normally get to see, like pigs and chickens,” one camper shared.

Organizers say the camp is also about helping children who may have never had a cat, dog, or experience with wildlife before. “It’s teaching them all about all sorts of different animals, so that they can be good stewards to them in the future,” one staff member explained.

The program is made possible through a grant from the City of Palm Springs, allowing many campers to attend on scholarships.

One more session is scheduled to run from July 21st through July 24th. Parents interested in signing up can register at psanimalshelter.org.
