Palm Springs Animal Camp Returns to Teach Kids Pet Care and Wildlife Skills

The dog days of summer are here, and Palm Springs Animal Allies is once again offering a unique opportunity for local kids to learn about animals through its third annual Palm Springs Animal Camp.

The camp teaches children how to properly care for a variety of animals, how to read pet body language, and what it takes to pursue a career as a veterinarian. For many campers, it’s their first time interacting with different types of animals, from house pets to farm animals.

One highlight of the experience is a field trip to a local rescue ranch. Campers get hands-on time with pigs, chickens, and other farm animals—an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

“A lot of kids that are coming to camp, maybe they’ve never had a cat before, they’ve never had a dog, or don’t know a lot about wildlife,” organizers shared. “So it’s teaching them all about all sorts of different animals, so they can be good stewards to them in the future.”

The camp also includes a special wildlife education day with a local expert, helping kids expand their understanding of both domestic and wild animals.

One more session of Palm Springs Animal Camp is scheduled to run from July 21 through July 24.
