Rep. Raul Ruiz Denied Access to Adelanto ICE Facility, Calls for DHS Secretary Resignation

Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz says he was denied access to the Adelanto Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Facility earlier this week due to a new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy. According to Ruiz’s office, the policy now requires congressional visits to be scheduled at least seven days in advance, a change from the previous 72-hour notice.

Ruiz, who represents parts of Riverside County, announced plans for the visit alongside fellow Riverside Democrat Representative Norma Torres. The lawmakers say their goal was to investigate reports of unsanitary and overcrowded conditions at the facility, as well as allegations of medical neglect, psychological trauma, and due process violations.

“We have heard stories of indiscriminate raids, sweeping of people regardless of immigration status or criminal record, masked and militarized ICE agents storming homes, schools, and places of worship,” Ruiz said.

Following the denied visit, Ruiz publicly called for the resignation of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, accusing her of violating constitutional rights. “Her actions are a direct violation of the Constitution and our constitutional rights,” Ruiz stated.

The Department of Homeland Security has not yet responded to Ruiz’s demands or provided additional details about the policy change.
