Farmworkers to Announce National Labor Strike Over Immigration Reform
Farmworkers and immigrant rights leaders will gather Monday afternoon to announce dates for a national labor strike demanding citizenship pathways, an end to immigration raids, and protections for undocumented workers.
The press conference at La Placita Olvera at 12:00 PM will unveil "Huelga Para La Dignidad" (Strike for Dignity), a coordinated labor action targeting immigration policies and agricultural industry practices.
Strike Demands
The farmworker-led movement is calling for three key changes:
A pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants
An end to ICE raids and deportations
Permanent protections for millions living in the U.S.
Boycott of Trump-Supporting Agribusiness
Organizers will also release a boycott list targeting agricultural companies whose executives supported Donald Trump and anti-immigrant policies. The boycott aims to pressure businesses that have profited from immigrant labor while backing policies harmful to those workers.
"This is our cry for justice. We've harvested this nation's food through fire, floods, and a pandemic," said a farmworker organizer. "Now we're asking the people to stand with us in this strike. To boycott the companies that exploit us and silence our voices. We are done being invisible."
The strike announcement comes as immigration enforcement and agricultural labor conditions remain contentious issues under the current administration.
