Neil Diamond Surprises Fans with “Sweet Caroline” Performance at Los Angeles Musical
Good times never seemed so good for theatergoers in Los Angeles this weekend. Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Diamond surprised the crowd at “The Neil Diamond Musical: A Beautiful Noise” on Saturday night with a live performance of his iconic song “Sweet Caroline.”
The special moment happened at the Pantages Theater, where the musical is currently playing. According to a video shared on the show’s official Instagram page, the audience erupted in applause as Diamond appeared on stage.
Now 84 years old, Diamond announced his retirement from live performances in 2018 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Despite his health challenges, he joined the audience in an impromptu sing-along, standing alongside the crowd as they sang his classic 1969 hit.
The musical “A Beautiful Noise” was created in collaboration with Diamond and is described as a “musical memoir.” It tells the story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chart-topping rock icon known around the world.
In a 2023 interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Diamond shared his journey in coming to terms with his diagnosis. “This is the hand that God’s given me, and I have to make the best of it,” he said at the time. “A calm has moved in.”
For the crowd at Saturday’s show, it was a moment to remember — and proof that some songs and voices never truly fade.
