Palm Springs Bookstore Struggles Without AC, Owners Say Landlord Unresponsive

One of Palm Springs’ most popular bookstores is facing a tough situation as triple-digit temperatures grip the Coachella Valley.

According to several social media posts and the store’s own Facebook page, the bookstore has been open for more than a week now with no air conditioning. Owners say someone damaged their AC unit, and they’ve asked their landlord to handle the repairs. But so far, they say the landlord has not stepped up.

“We asked them on Friday to send us any evidence in the lease saying that it was our responsibility,” one of the store’s owners shared. “They’ve since ghosted us. They’ve not returned phone calls. They’ve not returned emails. They’ve just stopped communicating with us at all.”

With no AC and extreme heat outside, the business has had to modify its hours. Some days they’ve closed early, including today when the store closed shortly before 5 p.m.

The owners say they’re doing their best to keep the shop open when they can but are encouraging customers to check their social media pages for daily updates on store hours while the air conditioning issue remains unresolved.
