Paving Picks Up and Lanes Tighten – Plan Your Route This Week

We’re back with your weekly Know Before You Go update — the one place to get ahead of roadwork around the Coachella Valley before your commute gets caught in the cones.

🛣️ La Quinta: Highway 111 Paving Begins — Expect Major Delays

The long-anticipated Highway 111 pavement rehabilitation project in La Quinta is officially entering the heavy construction phase. This massive repaving effort stretches from one end of the city to the other — from Plaza La Quinta in the west to Jefferson Street in the east — and will continue through November.

🚜 This week’s big change: Crews begin pulverizing the existing pavement — tearing it up in preparation for new asphalt. That means significant traffic delays.

🚗 Detours to use:

  • Fred Waring Drive: Additional green lights for smoother flow

  • Miles Avenue: Fully synchronized signals for more consistent traffic movement

🏗️ Cathedral City: Cathedral Cove Construction Continues

In Cathedral City, work is ongoing near the Cathedral Cove Shopping Center, where road widening efforts continue to impact multiple traffic signals and eastbound lanes on East Palm Canyon Drive.

📍 Current status: One lane in each direction, and traffic is moving slowly
🗓️ Estimated completion: 2–3 weeks from now, though progress is gradual

🚗 Suggested detour: Ramon Road is your best bet to get around the slowdown.

That wraps up your roadwork rundown for this week. Thanks again to Kris Gunterson for the traffic scoop. Don’t forget to check those QR code alerts, and we’ll see you next Monday with more updates.
