James Gunn's "Superman" starring David Corenswet flew to the top of the weekend box office with a massive $122 million opening, delivering one of the biggest debuts of the year.

The Man of Steel's arrival knocked "Jurassic World Rebirth" from its perch, with the dinosaur sequel falling to second place with $40 million - a steep 57% drop from its opening weekend.

"F1 The Movie" shifted into third gear with $13 million, while the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" landed in fourth place with $7.8 million. Pixar's "Elio" rounded out the top five with $3.9 million.

Superman's strong performance signals a successful launch for the latest iteration of the iconic superhero franchise.
