Palm Springs Library Closure Delayed; Temporary Location Opens August 25
Palm Springs Public Library is adjusting its closure dates as it prepares for major renovations and a temporary move.
City officials announced the closure originally scheduled for July 20–31 has been pushed back due to HVAC issues at the new temporary location in Rimrock Plaza. The library will now officially close from August 9 through August 24, with the temporary location opening on August 25 at 4721 E. Palm Canyon Drive.
The last day for regular service at the current library location, 300 S. Sunrise Way, will be August 8. Before closing its doors, the library invites the community to a farewell event on July 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Renovations at the main library branch are scheduled to begin August 25 and will last approximately 18 to 36 months, with completion expected by February 2027. A full reopening is set for summer 2027.
During renovations, Rimrock Plaza will maintain normal hours of operation. Library services will continue at multiple sites, including Welwood Murray Memorial Library and Mizell Center, with additional locations to be announced.
Friends of the Palm Springs Library will continue selling books — priced at four for $1 — both at the current library and the temporary site.
