Trump Pushes Back as Epstein Files Controversy Divides GOP Supporters

A growing divide within the Republican Party is emerging over the handling of Jeffrey Epstein case files, with President Donald Trump pushing back hard against some of his own supporters.

In a Truth Social post, Trump dismissed calls for further disclosure of the Epstein files as falling for a "hoax." He went as far as saying he "doesn't want their support anymore," calling those questioning his administration’s actions "weaklings."

"Some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net," Trump said in a video statement, addressing the controversy.

The clash stems from a memo released last week by the Department of Justice, which stated that Epstein had not been murdered while in prison and that there was no incriminating "client list" — directly contradicting conspiracy theories previously promoted by members of the Trump administration.

Attorney General Pam Bondi had previously fueled speculation by suggesting she had such a list on her desk, but has since clarified she was referring to other documents.

Now, top Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, are calling for more transparency.

"We should put everything out there and let the people decide," Johnson said. "Pam Bondi... needs to come forward and explain that to everybody."

According to a new CNN poll conducted after the DOJ memo was made public, half of Americans say they are dissatisfied with the amount of information the federal government has released about the Epstein case. Dissatisfaction is especially high among Democrats and independents, though many Republicans also share the concern.

The split comes as Trump continues to campaign ahead of the 2026 midterms, with some allies using the Epstein issue as a campaign talking point.

For now, the White House has not indicated whether more Epstein-related documents will be released, and the controversy appears likely to remain a flashpoint among Trump’s base.
