TSA May Revise Liquid Rules and End Shoes-Off Policy at Airport Checkpoints

The Transportation Security Administration may soon revise one of its longest-standing airport security rules.

During remarks today, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem hinted at a potential change to TSA’s carry-on liquid container size limit. Currently, travelers can only carry liquids in containers of 3.4 ounces or smaller. Anything larger must go into checked luggage.

While Noem didn’t share specifics or a timeline, she confirmed the Department of Homeland Security is reviewing the rule and considering updates.

This comes on the heels of another TSA update. Just last week, DHS announced it plans to end the shoes-off policy at airport security checkpoints. That change will allow travelers to keep their shoes on while passing through TSA screening lines, something many flyers have long hoped for.

Noem noted both policy shifts are part of broader efforts to streamline airport security without sacrificing safety.

We’ll keep tracking when and if these changes officially go into effect.
