South Palm Canyon Bridge Project Continues with Utility Work
Construction on Palm Springs' South Palm Canyon Bridge project is progressing as Desert Water Agency crews perform utility work at the intersection of South Palm Canyon Drive and Sunny Dunes Road.
The project, which began in February and is expected to conclude in late 2026, will see crews working from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. this week with no anticipated lane closures. Next week, construction teams will remove sections of the storm drain north of the bridge and install new waterlines. Bridge construction is advancing, with crews expected to complete shoring for the bridge footings within the next week.
All traffic lanes will remain open throughout the work, though flaggers will be stationed on-site. The city advises drivers to plan for extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
Local businesses in the area remain open and operational during construction. The bridge project represents a significant infrastructure improvement for the city's transportation network. Residents can find additional information at www.SouthPalmCanyonBridge.com or by calling 760-502-0072.
Palm Trees to Remain in Place
City officials are reassuring residents concerned about Palm Springs' iconic palm trees along the project corridor. No palm tree removals are currently planned during the ongoing construction phase.
Should future phases require tree relocation, all viable palms will be preserved and moved to a city facility for use in future landscaping projects. The city confirmed its commitment to preserving the community's signature trees wherever possible.
Residents may notice markings on some palm trees in the construction area, but officials said these are no longer relevant as they were part of an earlier relocation plan that has since been revised.
