28 Injured After Car Plows Into Crowd Outside East Hollywood Club; Driver Shot by Bystander

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A chaotic and violent incident outside an East Hollywood nightclub left 28 people injured early Saturday morning, with several in critical condition. Authorities say a vehicle plowed into a crowd gathered outside The Vermont Hollywood, a live music venue on the 4600 block of West Santa Monica Boulevard near Vermont Avenue.

The crash occurred just before 2 a.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz. Emergency crews arrived to find a mass casualty scene, deploying red, yellow, and green tarps to triage patients. A heavily damaged vehicle, its windshield shattered and headlights broken, was found on the sidewalk in front of the venue.

Among the injured, three people were listed in critical condition, six sustained serious injuries, and 19 others were reported in fair condition.

As firefighters treated the injured, LAPD officers responded to reports of an “assault with a deadly weapon.” They discovered the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had been shot. He was transported to a nearby hospital, though his current condition is unknown.

The shooter fled the scene on foot and remains at large. He is described as a bald Latino man, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue jersey and may be armed with a silver revolver.

Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement calling the crash a “heartbreaking tragedy” and praised the over 100 first responders from LAFD and LAPD who rushed to the scene. “The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning,” she said.
