Water Wise Wednesday
Water Wise Wednesday: Desert Milkweed Shines as July’s Featured Plant
It’s time for another Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District.
This month’s featured desert-friendly plant is the Desert Milkweed. Lorraine Garcia from the Coachella Valley Water District shares why this plant stands out in our desert climate.
“Desert Milkweed is actually a star performer in the Coachella Valley because it thrives in lots of sunshine and well-draining soils,” Garcia says.
The plant features pale yellow flowers that bloom from spring through fall. One of its key benefits? It attracts queen and monarch butterflies, helping support local pollinators.
Desert Milkweed is widely available at nurseries throughout the Coachella Valley. Not only is it visually appealing, but it’s also drought-tolerant, making it a smart choice for water-efficient landscaping.
