Locals React to President Trump’s Second Term at Six-Month Mark
President Donald Trump is now six months into his second term, and residents across the Coachella Valley are voicing mixed opinions about how the administration is performing.
Speaking from Truth Social, President Trump touted the administration’s progress, saying, “We hit a lot of home runs, and we're gonna keep hitting them.” Some locals agree, pointing to a recovering economy as a major positive.
“But overall, I think the economy is good,” said one resident. “I’d like to see interest rates drop some. I think that's hurting our country and hurting our growth.” Another added, “I can’t remember any other presidents that cut the budget to reduce the deficit. I applaud them for that.”
However, not all feedback was positive. A recent CNN poll shows 55% of Americans believe the administration has gone too far with deportations of undocumented immigrants. The same poll found that 59% oppose arresting and detaining undocumented individuals who have lived in the U.S. for years with no criminal record.
Immigration policy is a particular concern for some in the valley. One resident said, “Even those who immigrated legally and are now citizens feel nervous to go out. They feel judged just for how they look.”
Others expressed worry about the divisiveness in the country. “Very little harm has been done so far,” said one man, “but I think you should play fair with us.” A 90-year-old local added, “All I want is for the world to have peace.”
As President Trump continues his second term, many in the region say they’ll be closely watching how policies evolve—and how they affect their daily lives.
