Palm Springs Planning Commission to Review Surf Club After Dozens of Noise Complaints

After receiving dozens of noise complaints from nearby residents, the Palm Springs Planning Commission is set to review the operations at the Palm Springs Surf Club during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

According to the staff report, 66 individual complaints have been filed, citing excessive noise from both the wave machine and live music events at the park. In response, the Planning Commission may consider imposing additional oversight on the facility, including a review of the noise monitoring systems the Surf Club has installed in an effort to reduce sound levels.

Tonight at 6 p.m., NBC Palm Springs' Caitlyn Kelley will speak with local residents who live near the Surf Club and say the noise is affecting their quality of life.

Meanwhile, the Palm Springs Surf Club is responding to the community concerns. The club’s general manager spoke with Fred Roggin this afternoon, defending the park’s efforts to stay within acceptable noise limits.

"According to [the neighbors], it makes too much noise. According to us, we're just trying to run an operation here and trying to mitigate the sound as much as possible," said the manager. "It’s a water park—there’s a wave going on, kids running around, people having a good time. We’re just trying to be good neighbors and keep it under the required decibel level."

To see the full interview with the Palm Springs Surf Club general manager, tune in to The Roggin Report tonight at 6:30 p.m. on NBC Palm Springs.
