Palm Springs Residents Demand Action Over Surf Club Noise Complaints
The Palm Springs City Council is set to review a growing number of noise complaints during Tuesday’s regular meeting, focusing on disturbances linked to the Palm Springs Surf Club. More than 66 formal complaints have been lodged by residents of the nearby Tahquitz Canyon community, citing booming bass from the surf park’s live music events and its powerful wave machine.
“It feels like there is complete disregard for the community itself,” said one resident, echoing the frustration of many who claim their homes shake and their pets suffer from anxiety due to the constant noise.
Despite the volume of complaints and evidence of repeated noise violations, residents say city code compliance has been ineffective. “Their job is only to mark down the issue,” one neighbor stated. “They don’t actually implement fines or enforce changes.”
Longtime residents Dan and Marlene, who’ve lived in the area for 30 years, pointed out a perceived double standard: “We’re not even allowed to play music in our backyard if we’re renting our home—but the Surf Club seems exempt.”
A planning commission document obtained by NBC Palm Springs reveals that subwoofers are explicitly banned at the Surf Club, a regulation residents claim is being ignored.
As tensions rise, one clear request is coming from the Tahquitz community: “We don’t want to hear the wave machine or their outside music—at all.”
