Paving Project Slows Traffic on Highway 111 in La Quinta; Below-Normal Temps Continue in Coachella Valley
If you're heading out in La Quinta, you'll want to plan ahead. A major paving project on Highway 111 is causing significant traffic delays and is expected to last through mid-November. The construction zone stretches from Plaza La Quinta to Jefferson Street.
CVAG’s CV Sync Traffic Management Team recommends using alternate routes like Miles Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. Signal timing has been adjusted to ease congestion, and changeable message boards are active to keep drivers informed. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted detours and allow extra travel time through the area. You can also sign up for real-time construction alerts on the CVAG website.
Meanwhile, weather conditions are offering a bit of relief. Temperatures across the Coachella Valley remain below average for this time of year. Highs today range from the upper 90s to low 100s, with humidity levels higher than usual—up to 41% in parts of the valley. That’s still mild compared to what we usually see in late July, when highs often reach 109 degrees.
Today’s highs include 102 in Palm Springs, 101 in Indio, and 99 in Desert Hot Springs. Expect dew points in the mid-50s, giving the air a slightly muggy feel. The seven-day forecast from Comfort Air shows a slow warming trend, but highs will continue to stay just below seasonal norms. The good news: each day brings drier conditions leading into Thursday.
