Palm Springs Surf Club Faces Scrutiny Over Noise Complaints at Planning Commission Meeting
The Palm Springs Planning Commission is addressing growing noise complaints tied to the popular Palm Springs Surf Club. A packed meeting at City Hall is underway, with the commission moving the Surf Club agenda item to the top of the docket due to overwhelming public interest.
The meeting, originally scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., was delayed by technical difficulties but has since commenced. Outside City Hall, NBC Palm Springs reporter Caitlyn Kelley spoke with residents arriving to share their concerns, many of whom say they aren’t opposed to the club’s events—just the volume.
“There are sound ordinances in play,” one homeowner told us. “We hope the surf park will respect those and keep the volume at a certain level so that it does not impact the community. Nobody in the community is saying don’t play music. We’re just saying keep it within city-approved limits.”
The Palm Springs Surf Club, known for its lively events and wave pool parties, has drawn increasing attention from nearby homeowners who say the booming music from concerts and announcements has become disruptive.
The founder of the Surf Club and several staff members were in attendance, expressing their willingness to work with the city and neighbors to find a solution. He stated earlier that the club wants to be a good neighbor.
More updates from tonight’s commission meeting will be provided during our 11 p.m. newscast.
