Coachella Valley sports talk show hosts celebrate 10 years on the air

Pure Sports with Geoff Bloom has reached an impressive milestone: 10 years on the air.

Broadcast weekdays on 102.7 The Fanatic, the locally beloved sports talk show is hosted by Geoff Bloom — known on-air as “The Dome” — alongside co-host and producer Austin Derryberry. What began as a passion project has grown into one of the longest-running sports programs in the Coachella Valley.

“For me, it’s been a dream come true,” said Bloom. “I always wanted to be in sports talk radio. I’ve been an avid fan my whole life, and when I came to the Valley, I got to live that dream.”

For Derryberry, the opportunity to work in sports talk wasn’t just a job, but a natural extension of what he was already doing for fun.

“How many people get to say they get paid to do their favorite thing?” he said. “I love it and I’m incredibly thankful.”

Despite the casual, conversational tone of the show, both hosts agree it takes significant preparation to keep the content fresh and informative.

“People think you just show up and talk for three hours,” said Bloom. “But every day I’m reading, researching, lining up sponsors — especially during NFL season, when we’re recapping every single game. Even if I don’t care about a matchup, we still cover it.”

The show’s dedicated following has played a major role in its success. Regular listeners interact with the hosts daily via a live text line, often using colorful nicknames like “Spaghetti Jeff,” “Raider Royce,” and “Mike the Saints Fan.”

“We’re so lucky to have the listeners we do,” Bloom said. “They contribute to the show, and it’s genuinely fun to hear from them every day.”

Sponsorships have also been key to sustaining the program over the years, with the team consistently working to build new partnerships.

As for the next chapter?

“I hope we’re still doing this another 10 years,” said Bloom. “Can I say syndication?”
