Cooling Trend Continues with Gusty Winds Ahead for Coachella Valley

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — Happy Thursday, Coachella Valley! Another beautiful day is in the books as temperatures reached just below 106°F—slightly cooler than the seasonal average of 108°F for mid-July. While 121°F remains the record-breaking number for this date set back in 2018, today’s conditions were far more forgiving.

A low-pressure system currently moving toward Southern California is responsible for these welcome cooler temperatures and will continue influencing our weather pattern into the weekend. By Friday, that system is expected to settle just north of Point Conception, bringing with it a stronger breeze and even cooler air.

As this system pushes through the region, expect winds to intensify, especially by Friday afternoon. Gusts could reach between 40 and 50 mph, particularly through the wind-prone San Gorgonio Pass. These gusty conditions will accompany a noticeable dip in temperatures, with Saturday’s high forecast to be a refreshing 101°F—well below average for this time of year.

Looking ahead to next week, however, residents should brace for a return to typical desert heat. After the weekend cooldown, a warming trend will begin Sunday, pushing temperatures back above 110°F by Tuesday.

So for now, enjoy the brief relief and stay alert for those windy conditions Friday and Saturday.
