Desert Wildlife Center in Indio Welcomes First Patients: Two Birds Begin Recovery
The brand new Desert Wildlife Center in Indio has reached an exciting milestone this week, officially welcoming its very first patients.
On opening day, staff admitted a Eurasian collared dove suffering from head trauma. The team immediately administered fluids, pain relief, and a nutrition-rich diet to help the bird recover. According to center staff, the dove is already showing signs of improvement after just a few days of care.
Shortly after, a young house sparrow nestling was also brought in and became the center’s second patient. Both birds are now under observation as part of the center’s rehabilitation program.
For now, the Desert Wildlife Center is focusing on the care of injured wild birds, but there are plans to expand in the future to include mammals and reptiles as the facility grows.
If you find an injured bird, you can contact the center’s helpline to schedule an appointment. They are currently open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are accepting patients by appointment only.
The center’s staff says this is just the beginning of their mission to give Coachella Valley wildlife a second chance.
