Know Before You Go: Coachella Valley Traffic Updates for Week of July 28
Several major construction projects and speed limit changes will impact Coachella Valley traffic this week. Here's what drivers need to know:
Palm Springs Construction
The city continues its pavement rehabilitation project at the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Lawrence Crossley, including portions of the Dinah Shore Bridge. Work begins Monday, July 28, and is expected to finish Tuesday, July 29.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions during construction hours. Drivers should plan for delays and consider alternate routes.
La Quinta Highway 111 Project
A significant pavement rehabilitation project on Highway 111 begins Wednesday, July 30. The intersection at Washington Street will be completely closed to through traffic.
Nearby lanes will remain open exclusively for business access. Commuters and through traffic should use alternate routes during this phase of construction. For project-specific updates, visit lqhighway111.com.
Cathedral City Speed Limit Changes
New speed limits took effect Friday, July 25, on more than 10 major streets following an engineering and traffic survey. Key reductions include:
Date Palm Drive (Vista Chino to 30th Avenue): reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph
McCallum Way (Date Palm to Da Vall Drive): reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph
Vista Chino (west city limits to Date Palm Drive): reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph
Varner Road (west city limits to Edom Hill Road): reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph
Ramon Road (Date Palm to Da Vall Drive): reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph
One street will see an increase: Santoro Drive from 30th Avenue to McCallum Way rises from 25 mph to 35 mph.
The changes are designed to improve road safety based on current traffic conditions and recent infrastructure updates.
