Coachella City Council To Address $2.4 Million Budget Deficit in Special Meeting

The City of Coachella is set to hold a special city council meeting on Tuesday evening to address the city’s fiscal budget, which is facing a projected $2.4 million deficit.

According to a staff report prepared by the city’s finance director, the shortfall is partly due to increased costs for Riverside County protective services, including police and fire. Combined, those services are seeking $2 million more in funding this year, marking an increase of about 11.8 percent compared to last year.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at Coachella City Hall. Residents who are unable to attend in person can take part virtually. Anyone wishing to speak during the meeting must submit a request to speak before the council begins discussion on the topic.

City leaders are expected to focus on potential ways to address the budget gap while continuing to fund essential services.
