Cathedral City Hosts Final Free Summer Movie and Book Event Friday
As the summer break winds down for Coachella Valley students, Cathedral City is set to host the final event of its popular free summer movies and book series this Friday.
The last showing of the season will take place at 10 a.m. at the Mary Pickford Theater, where families can enjoy “Sing 2” on the big screen. The program, which pairs movies with reading activities, has been a big success this year. Last summer, the series drew nearly 2,000 children and parents, and city organizers say attendance has been strong again in 2024.
For many local parents, the program offers both entertainment and savings. “I think it's beautiful because for me, a single mom, it's the perfect place to save money. They get to read, they get to just enjoy life,” one attendee shared.
Admission is free, and passes can be picked up in advance at the Cathedral City Library on Date Palm Drive.
The series is hosted by the city’s Parks and Community Events Commission and sponsored by Dinner with Patsi and Read with Me.
