Water Wise Wednesday: CVWD Expands Recycled Water Pipeline to Conserve Groundwater Resources

On this week’s Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD), the spotlight is on an important infrastructure project that’s helping shape the future of local water use.

Lorraine Garcia from CVWD shared that the district is currently installing a one-mile stretch of non-potable recycled water pipeline along Cook Street—from Cheryl Avenue to Rivera Drive—as part of its broader mission to reduce reliance on groundwater.

“This project expands our recycled water system to more customers, specifically for outdoor irrigation at places like HOAs, golf courses, and other large landscaped areas,” said Garcia. “That’s water that would otherwise come from our underground aquifers.”

Using recycled water for irrigation helps preserve groundwater for essential indoor use and ensures a more sustainable and reliable supply for both current and future generations in the Coachella Valley.

While the project is expected to bring long-term benefits, residents and commuters in the area should expect traffic delays along Cook Street during construction. CVWD appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as they work to complete the pipeline.
