Construction to Begin in September on Trump’s $200 Million White House Ballroom
Construction will begin in September on a $200 million White House ballroom, fulfilling President Donald Trump’s 15-year ambition to expand the event space on the historic grounds.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that the 90,000-square-foot “state ballroom” will be built in place of the current East Wing, temporarily relocating staff offices traditionally used by first ladies. The ballroom, modeled in a style similar to Trump’s private clubs, will feature gold chandeliers, Corinthian columns, a coffered ceiling with gold inlays, a checkered marble floor, and arched windows overlooking the South Lawn.
The space will seat up to 650 guests, more than three times the current capacity of the White House East Room.
“President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail,” said Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, noting that the president and private donors will cover the cost.
The White House emphasized that the new addition will respect the neoclassical style of the executive mansion while eliminating the need for large outdoor tents for major events.
Trump has long advocated for a permanent event hall, a vision dating back to at least 2010 when he offered to fund such a ballroom during the Obama administration. The project is now moving forward after consultations with the National Park Service, the White House Military Office, and the Secret Service.
The design will be led by McCrery Architects, known for classical architectural work.
