Tsunami Alerts Lifted for Most U.S. Coasts After Massive Quake in Russia
Tsunami alerts across much of the United States were lifted Wednesday following a massive earthquake near Russia’s eastern coast.
The advisories, which were issued shortly after the quake, have now been canceled for Hawaii, most of California, Oregon, and Washington. However, two sections of the California coastline remain under advisory as officials continue to monitor ocean conditions.
Hawaii beaches and Los Angeles County beaches have reopened after being temporarily closed as a precaution.
The National Weather Service is cautioning beachgoers to remain vigilant, noting that water levels and currents may continue to fluctuate over the next several days even though the immediate threat has lessened.
Officials are reminding those along the coast to use caution when near or in the water.
