Extreme Heat Watch Issued: Coachella Valley Braces for 115°+ Temps Next Week

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. — Happy Friday! While today’s high of 109° lands right around average for early August, it’s just the calm before a serious heat surge across the region.

Starting this weekend, temperatures will begin climbing — Saturday tops out at 113°, and it doesn’t cool down from there. A ridge of high pressure is strengthening over the Desert Southwest and will shift eastward early next week, allowing heat to build rapidly across Southern California.

By Thursday, that ridge will be fully in place, pushing daytime highs into extreme territory — with temperatures expected to soar between 115 and 119 degrees. As a result, an extreme heat watch has already been issued for parts of the region, including the Coachella Valley.

Meteorologists warn that these kinds of highs can pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on neighbors and pets.
