International Beer Day Brings Cheers to Coachella Valley Taprooms
Beer lovers across the Coachella Valley are joining in on the celebration of International Beer Day, a global holiday that started in Santa Cruz in 2007. The day highlights three goals: enjoying beer with friends, honoring the people behind the brews, and bringing the world together one pint at a time.
In Rancho Mirage, the Yardhouse is one of the Valley’s busiest spots for beer enthusiasts. With 140 drafts and 120 styles of beer on tap, bartenders say there is something for everyone.
“We can even find a beer for someone who says, ‘I don’t like beer,’” said bartender Brett, who has been pouring pints for nearly 20 years. “Beer is the most versatile drink out there, and it makes up about 80 percent of our alcohol sales.”
Craft beer has grown into big business. According to the Brewers Association, nearly 29 billion dollars in beer sales were recorded last year, with more than 23 million barrels sold nationwide.
Locals say there’s nothing quite like enjoying a cold beer on a hot desert day. “It never gets me into trouble, but it gets me there,” one beer lover said with a laugh.
International Beer Day has become an annual tradition for beer fans around the world, and for many in the Coachella Valley, it’s a reminder of how beer brings people together.
