New Documentary "Architecton" Examines Architecture's Environmental Impact

A new documentary explores the relationship between human-built structures and the natural world through the lens of architecture and urban planning.

"Architecton," directed by Victor Kossakovsky, presents a visual study of how architectural choices affect both current and future generations. The film examines the contrast between traditional building methods and modern construction practices.

Director's Perspective on Building Practices

Kossakovsky highlighted a key theme in the documentary regarding the long-term costs of construction choices. "What is interesting, it was probably expensive to build, but children just need to keep it alive, right? They just clean it," he said, referring to historical architecture. "But what we do, we do opposite. We built what is cheap today, but we don't think that our kids have to demolish it and build something else."

Filmmaking Approach

Kossakovsky compared his documentary filmmaking process to architectural construction. "The difference between cinema and architecture is very interesting," he explained. "In architecture, you see building shape of the building immediately. In cinema is a little bit opposite. You will know the shape only in the end of the film, but the process is almost the same."

Viewing Information

"Architecton" is currently available for theatrical release. The documentary emphasizes visual elements designed for large-screen viewing.
