Pentagon Schedules First Major Test of Trump's Golden Dome Missile Defense System

The Pentagon has scheduled its first major test of the Golden Dome missile defense system, President Donald Trump's proposed multi-billion dollar space-based shield designed to protect the entire United States.

According to two sources familiar with the matter, the Phase One test is scheduled for just before the 2028 election. The timeline appears ambitious but aligns with Trump's pledge made in May to "have it done in three years."

Trump has described the Golden Dome as capable of intercepting missiles from anywhere once fully constructed. The system represents his vision for a comprehensive space-based defense network that would provide nationwide protection.

The Missile Defense Agency will conduct the testing. The agency did not respond to a request for comment about the scheduled test.

Dozens of companies are competing for roles in developing the Golden Dome system, including SpaceX, according to the sources. The competition reflects the significant commercial interest in what would be one of the largest defense contracts in recent years.
