EU Triples Travel Authorization Fee for Visitors From Visa-Free Countries

The European Union has announced that it will increase the fee for its new European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), which will soon be required for travelers from visa-free countries, including the United States.

When the program launches toward the end of next year, the ETIAS fee will be set at 20 euros, which is about $23. That amount is nearly triple the original price previously announced.

ETIAS will be a requirement for non-EU nationals visiting Europe from countries that do not currently need a visa, with the goal of improving security and monitoring travel into the EU.

The system will apply to travelers heading to most European Union countries as well as several associated nations. Once the fee takes effect, visitors will need to apply for authorization online before traveling.
