Extreme Heat Warning Set for Coachella Valley This Week

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. —
Happy Monday, Coachella Valley. As we kick off the new week, all eyes are on a dangerous heat wave building across the region. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Coachella Valley floor beginning Wednesday and continuing through Friday.

Forecast models show temperatures steadily climbing, reaching 110 degrees today and peaking at 116 to 119 degrees later this week.

"This is not the time to sign up for those tennis lessons or plan outdoor workouts," meteorologists warn, as prolonged exposure to these conditions can be dangerous.

Along with the heat, wildfire activity across the Southwest is also impacting air quality here at home. Smoke from nearby fires has made conditions unhealthy for sensitive groups, and that haze combined with the heat makes outdoor activity even riskier.

Looking ahead, Tuesday brings a high of 113, with the hottest day expected to be Thursday. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and check in on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Stay safe and stay cool, Coachella Valley.
