Hashtag Trivia
From White Wine to Cookie Monster's Secret Name
Monday, August 4th brought some delightfully unusual celebrations to the NBC Palm Springs morning show, where weatherman Jerry Steffen served up his signature Hashtag Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz alongside road warrior Chris.
Today's Quirky Holidays (No Hallmark Cards Required!)
National White Wine Day kicked off the celebration – because who doesn't love a lighter, more refreshing alternative to red wine? Jerry and the team quickly dove into white wine's perfect pairings: seafood, chicken, cheese, or simply enjoyed solo. Consider it research for your next dinner party!
Single Working Women's Day earned a well-deserved "woop woop" as the show spotlighted the hardworking, courageous, and creative women making their mark in workplaces everywhere.
National Assistance Dog Day brought out everyone's softer side, honoring the guide dogs and therapy dogs who provide invaluable service with unconditional dedication (and undeniable cuteness).
But the real crowd-pleaser? National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day – celebrating America's favorite cookie and setting up the perfect segue into today's challenging pop quiz.
Cookie Conundrums That Stumped the Studio
With "cookie" as the magic word, Jerry threw down two surprisingly tough questions that had the control room split and guessing.
Question #1 transported everyone back to 1959 with a novelty hit called "Cookie, Cookie, Lend Me Your Comb" – a beatnik slang-filled tune that made Billboard's top ten. The catch? Contestants had to identify which late 50s/early 60s detective drama featured the character Cookie.
Question #2 ventured into Sesame Street territory with a Cookie Monster mystery that Jerry swore they'd tackled before. While everyone knows the blue, cookie-obsessed Muppet, few remember that he actually has a first name revealed in rare moments on the show.
The Verdict
Two tough questions, plenty of laughs, and a reminder that morning television's best moments often come from the unexpected. Whether you're sipping white wine with dinner tonight or enjoying a chocolate chip cookie, you'll have some fun trivia to share – courtesy of Jerry Steffen and the NBC Palm Springs morning crew.
