White Wine, Cookies, and Cookie Monsters: August 4th Pop Quiz Fun

It’s Monday, August 4th, and NBC Palm Springs is marking the day with our holiday calendar pop quiz! Several lesser-known holidays are on the books today—none of which come with Hallmark cards but all of which are worth celebrating.

First up is National White Wine Day, the perfect excuse to unwind with a chilled glass of Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Whether paired with seafood, cheese, chicken, or enjoyed on its own, white wine fans are raising their glasses.

Also being recognized today is Single Working Women’s Day, honoring the strength, creativity, and dedication of single women in the workplace. A big shoutout to all who are making it happen every day.

We also celebrate National Assistance Dog Day, a time to thank the guide dogs, therapy dogs, and service animals who make life safer and more accessible for so many.

And of course, who could forget National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day—America’s favorite cookie! That brings us to our pop quiz theme of the day: cookies.

The first trivia question tested knowledge of a 1959 novelty song, “Cookie, Cookie, Lend Me Your Comb,” performed by Edward Burns and Connie Stevens. The character "Cookie" was from the TV series 77 Sunset Strip, which stumped most of the team.

The second question took us to Sesame Street, asking for Cookie Monster’s rarely mentioned real name. The answer? Sid—a fact that was buried in the brains of a few lucky team members!
