James O. Jesse Desert Highland Unity Center Gets Major Tech Upgrade with $56K Grant

A major technology upgrade is now live at the James O. Jesse Desert Highland Unity Center, thanks to a $56,000 grant awarded by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The funding has equipped the center with 16 brand new computer workstations and full building-wide Wi-Fi access, including coverage in the gym and meeting rooms.

This tech boost is a significant step forward for the Desert Highland community in Palm Springs. Residents now have easier access to the internet for everything from schoolwork and job applications to telehealth services and digital literacy training.

Center staff say the goal is to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all residents — especially youth and seniors — have the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

The grant is part of a statewide initiative to expand internet access and improve digital equity in underserved communities.
