Rosa Fire Displaces Animals; Riverside County Shelters Seek Emergency Fosters

As the Rosa Fire continues to force evacuations across the region, Riverside County Animal Services is stepping up to care for displaced animals — but they're reaching a critical limit.

The San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus has taken in more than a dozen horses, five turkeys, seven goats, and other animals impacted by fire evacuations. Staff are working around the clock to care for these animals, many of which were rescued from fire-threatened farms and rural properties.

But with shelters nearing capacity, county officials are putting out an urgent plea to the public: please consider fostering a dog — especially unowned dogs over 30 pounds.

If you’re able to open your home temporarily, visit one of the following locations:

  • Western Riverside County/City Shelter in Jurupa Valley

  • San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus

  • Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms

In addition to fostering, residents can help by donating supplies or funds to support care for displaced farm animals. To donate or learn more, visit the Newsroom tab at NBCPalmSprings.com.
