Fort Stewart, a major U.S. Army installation in southeast Georgia, is under lockdown following confirmation of an active shooter on base, according to Fort Stewart police.

Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, spokesperson for the Fort Stewart Police Department, confirmed the active shooter situation but did not provide additional details. A statement posted to the verified Facebook page for Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield reported that casualties have occurred and that the situation remains active.

“The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene at the time,” the post stated.

Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is home to the 3rd Infantry Division and serves as a key training and deployment site for both active and reserve Army units. The base houses more than 10,000 residents, including soldiers, their families, and Army civilian personnel.

Officials have not yet released the number of casualties or information about a suspect. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area until further notice.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
