Clear the Shelters Event at Palm Springs Animal Shelter Offers Hundreds of Cats and Dogs for Adoption This Weekend

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is overflowing with pets in need of loving homes, and this weekend’s Clear the Shelters event aims to change that. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, offering residents the chance to adopt one of the many cats and dogs waiting for a family.

Shelter Executive Director Dan Rossi says there are currently more than 300 cats on site — far more than the shelter can comfortably house. “Just finding forever homes for all the animals that are here,” Rossi said, is the most rewarding part of the effort.

The shelter will feature a wide range of adoptable animals, including Fiji, a shy three-and-a-half-month-old kitten who needs a patient home to help her build confidence.

In addition to adoptions, the Palm Springs Animal Shelter offers ongoing community support programs. Their Pet Food Bank provides free cat and dog food, including specialized medical diets for pets in need. The shelter also runs low-cost vaccine clinics and operates the Desert Community Animal Center in Desert Hot Springs, where they offer medical assistance and behavioral support with an on-staff behaviorist.

Adopters during this weekend’s event will receive a gift bag and two tickets to The Living Desert, adding an extra incentive to give a pet a second chance at life.

The Clear the Shelters event takes place Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.
