Clear the Shelters Event Brings Free Pet Adoptions to Palm Springs This Weekend

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is inviting the community to find their next furry friend during its Clear the Shelters event this weekend, August 16 and 17. All adoption fees will be waived, thanks to community sponsors, making it the perfect opportunity to bring home a loving pet.

One of this week’s featured pets is Twinkie, a special-needs kitten who arrived at the shelter in fragile condition. After months of dedicated medical care, Twinkie is now healthy, lively, and ready for a forever family—despite a mild neurological condition that gives him a charming wobble when he walks. Shelter Executive Director Dan Rossi says Twinkie would do well in any type of home, from quiet households to busy, active families.

Adoption fees have been waived for the event, thanks to generous community donations. Adopters this weekend will also receive two tickets to the Living Desert Zoo and a starter pet care bag from Tailwaggers, filled with toys and treats.

The shelter is currently caring for more than 300 cats and 180 dogs, and staff say they have a match for just about any family. “Whatever may fit your family, we probably have it here,” Rossi said. “We just want to see these animals in loving homes.”
