Counterfeit Labubu Dolls Pose Safety Risks to Children, British Regulators Warn
Britain's Chartered Trading Standards Institute has issued an urgent warning about counterfeit Labubu dolls, citing choking hazards and potential toxic substances that pose risks to young children.
The palm-sized plush toys, featuring elf-like faces and sharp teeth, have surged in popularity to the point where authentic versions are increasingly difficult to find. This scarcity has fueled a robust counterfeit market, with fake versions flooding retail channels.
According to the trading standards institute, many counterfeit Labubu dolls are poorly manufactured with numerous small, detachable parts that present choking hazards. The organization also warns that these knockoff toys may contain toxic substances, though specific details about the harmful materials were not provided.
The institute advises consumers to verify authenticity through three key markers: a holographic "Pop Mart" sticker, a scannable QR code linking to the company's official website, and a UV stamp located on one of the toy's feet.
